2008 was one of the most challenging years of my life. I lost loved ones through death and I had my identity stolen and all kinds of things were purchased using my details.
I sank straight into depression even though I didn’t realize I had. I struggled to make it through each day. I, however, had to put on a brave face and pretend that I was ok because I didn’t want the world to know how I was truly suffering.
I had no one to comfort or help me through the pain so I resorted to food and sleeping.
I gained weight and lost my self-esteem, my life became a downward spiral. Before I knew it my weight was completely out of control.
I had a choice to continue on that downward spiral or change my life. I chose to change my life because I was sick and tired of being sick and tired.
I started eating healthy and went back to the gym with the longest T-shirts I could find so I could hide all that was underneath them.
It was not easy getting started. A former colleague who had gone through the weight loss journey introduced me to an eating program and got me running my first 5km race. From then I never looked back.
I lived for eating healthy and working out. I must, however, admit that it was not a smooth transition. There were days when I struggled but I got through it and reminded myself every time of the life I could have.
With dedication and commitment, I lost a total of 16kg. I was smaller than I was in my teens. I wore a bikini for the first time in my life.
I felt great and never wanted to let go of that feeling so I made healthy living my new way of life. Colleagues who wanted to lose weight came to me for tips and I would assist where I could.
I enjoyed helping others overcome the same challenges I had and overcame.
I decided that this is what I wanted to do; help others be the best they can be. I had to find a way to do more of the things I love – helping people with their weight loss challenges or just maintaining fitness and well-being.
I started with a blog and the next thing I had launched Healthy365 Boot Camp. There is a lot more in store for Healthy365.
This is just the beginning of a journey in continuing to help me and others become and stay Healthy 365 days of the year.
