Fran received her BSc Physiotherapy from Wits University in 1996 and her MSc Physiotherapy (Orthopaedic Manipulative Therapy) from Wits in 2009, so has more than sixteen years postgraduate experience. Fran worked in the private sector in Johannesburg for a number of years before going to the UK and working in the NHS for four years. In 2004 on returning to South Africa she opened Fran Lewis Physiotherapy Practice. Fran worked part-time for the Wits Physiotherapy Department as a clinical supervisor in 2009 and 2010, and as an external examiner in 2013, and has completed numerous postgraduate courses/qualifications including: Mulligans manual therapy techniques; dry needling; McKenzie accreditation; McConell techniques; SIJ dysfunction; Headache assessment and treatment; Upper and Lower limb biomechanical assessment and treatment; Chronic pain management; Medical communication skills; Women’s health; PGAP; and Pilates. Fran has a special interest in pain management, chronic low back and neck pain and in adolescent musculoskeletal disorders. Fran is a member of the Pain special interest group and the Orthopaedic Manipulative Physiotherapy special interest group of the South African Society of Physiotherapy. Fran is a member of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) and belongs to the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists. Fran has recently placed PhD study on low back pain looking at various physical and psychosocial factors, on hold due to the birth of her beautiful daughter.
